  1. I know it was made in 1937, but still. . . Cringy. That's the first word that comes to mind when I think about this movie. I do realize that times have changed considerably since 1937, but it is hard to watch white people with terrible make-up trying to look Asian. The extras are actual Asian people from China, Vietnam, Korea, and Japan all mixed together to represent Chinese people. But nearly all of the main characters are very white.   3. Movie did not closely follow book by Pearl S. Buck The movie did not follow the book "The Good Earth" the way I thought it should. I did not know that the movie had been made so long ago. If it was being made in this day and time it would have been more realistic, I'm sure.
